I've been doing VW lock work for J3 Restorations of TN for a few years. I've gotten to be good friends with Rich since he's a diehard Steelers fan.
So back in June I start getting texts saying that he's got a killer job for me and that Beetle that it's from was bought in western PA. The owner was no other than Mike of American Pickers.
I shit my pants and got nervous. I wasn't getting my run of the mill job. Something "new" like some 70s or 80s locks. Nope. 1952 Split Window Beetle. GULP!
Long story short, he sends me all these pictures and tells me to keep hush on the job. Months pass by and I thought he went with someone else or was bluffin. Then he messages that the locks are on their way. I get them and the super rare ignition is broken. But BOOM I had one!!! I'll prolly never have one ever again. BUT I had it when I needed it most. Got everything done, let out a big sigh, and sent it all back. I told Rich to feel free to mention my name. LOL. We'll see. Just being in those circles is exciting stuff!
SO, here's my pictures I've had and had to hold out for months!!
Proud VW Baughman Locksmith moment!! (Then find out today that the Beetle was just 40 miles from Altoona! Sitting in a barn for 30 yrs!)
Justin Baughman (or Bugman, oxoxoxox)
Congratulations...
